Which is the best Fake Tan for my skin?

With so many fake tans on the market, I understand that choosing the right fake tanning product would be a hard decision.  Especially given that most people who fake tan, predominantly do so in the warmer months to show off their beautiful skin.  Even Australian model Elle McPherson and Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins have gotten on the Fake Tan train, to endorse their own product.

Recently, I met a professional spray tan technician that had been in the industry for over 30+ years. She told me that the way she accesses what the best tan is, is to access her clients’ veins.  If the veins are green then she automatically assesses a darker tan to those with blue veins who get the lighter tans.  Go figure, right!

So, what this means is that if you’re a cool or red/pink-based skin tone you should be going for a green based fake tan, as green is the complimentary colour. Warm or yellow-based skin tone you should be going for a violet based fake tan as this is the complimentary colour to yellow.

Heads up…If you get a spray tan in a green or a violet base, you’ll end up green or violet for your function, or until the green/ violet colourants wash away.  Fake tans need to embrace your natural undertones, not counteract them.

My recommendation is that when you decide to take the plunge and purchase a fake tanning product or alternatively, attend a professional who wants to assess your veins, investigate first if the formulator who created the fake tanning product in the first place was a qualified colour technician.
